About the Courthouse Rotary Virginia Beach
Virginia Beach's fourth Rotary Club, called the
Virginia Beach Courthouse Rotary Club was chartered
on June 12, 2008. The club offers professionals
in the Courthouse area a chance to participate
in one of the world's premier service organizations.
Courthouse Rotary meets weekly for fellowship,
education and project planning. Since inception,
some of the projects Courthouse Rotary members
have participated in include:
• The Muscular Dystrophy Association’s summer
camp held at the 4-H campground in Wakefield
• Cape Henry Rotary’s Bowl-A-Thon
• The Pungo Strawberry Festival (fundraiser
for the club)
The Courthouse Rotary Club has contributed funds
to the “Bridges To Prosperity” project by fellow
Rotarians. This project constructs foot bridges
in remote impoverished areas around the world.
The project requires locals to learn how to maintain
and build new bridges going forward.
Local projects by the three other Virginia Beach
clubs include numerous fund raising events to
benefit local charities such as Judeo-Christian
Outreach, Samaritan House, Lee’s Friends, Girl
and Boy Scouts, Seton House, Equi-Kids, and YWCA
Battered Women Program. International projects
include aid for cleft palate surgery in the Philippines,
Peace Scholars and Ambassadorial Scholars worldwide,
water harvesting in northern India villages, and
polio eradication worldwide.
Rotary International has been an important part
of Virginia Beach since 1927, when the city received
its first chartered club. Since then, the cities
three clubs have donated countless dollars to
charities and thousands of volunteer hours to
benefit Virginia Beach residents and people around
the world.
Rotary has over 1.2 million men and women members
globally in over 32,000 clubs in 168 counties.
Known as Rotarians, the members provide humanitarian
service, encourage high ethical standards in their
businesses and lives, and strive to build goodwill
and peace in the world.
